OVERVIEW OF ICARUS
Icarus is another survival game that is session-based developed under the development company RocketWerkz. Taking place on an unfriendly alien territory, it invites player to scavenge, find materials, and, most of all, live on a planet with oddities lurking in every corner. The concept of the game is that people have tried and failed to make Icarus habitable, so the planet’s climate is toxic & deadly. Players, who take the role of the character – prospectors – are exploring missions to collect valuable resources for living and gain. Various environments of the world are depicted vividly including the forests, deserts and the ocean, each with simulation of environment hazards and advantages.
The mechanics encompass exploration, crafting and the alternation in between both. They are controlling hunger, thirst, oxygen and even climatic conditions together with warding off agents such as animals and natural disasters. Tools for using raw materials, constructing homes & improving their surrounding equipment are critical for surviving the many adversities of the planet. Icarus that is solo/Co-op, it means that you can team up with your friends and coordinate actions and skills to pass some level. The cooperative element profit from the game, because players have the possibility to share burdens and protect each other against the risks of the alien territory. ICARUS is linked to a skill tree and a ‘tech tree’ allowing players to change their approach and advanced missions can be completed as skill moves up.
Environmental narrative and plans/missions staged within the game are used to disclose the background of the events, history of the planet and humans’ failure of the latter. ICARUS presents an open world, worthwhile difficulties of survival, and genuine teamwork all in all, Icarus is a worthy representative of the survival & exploration genre.
